2024 Most Anticipated Fantasy New Releases

Hi friends,
I’m back with my first post of 2024. And what better way to start it besides seeing what’s in store for next this year?! That’s right, we’re going to delve into my most anticipated new releases in 2024.

Do note that this is what I have in mind for now, but of course as reading list go it could only grow.
For this post, I’m going to limit to five books to make sure the post doesn’t go too long and I will only limit to fantasy, my go-to genre.

So without further ado, let’s get into it.

Wind and Truth (Brandon Sanderson)

book cover
Release date: December 6th 2024 | PRE-ORDER LINKS

The long-awaited explosive climax to the first arc of the #1 New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive.
Dalinar Kholin has challenged the evil god Odium to a contest of champions, and the Knights Radiant and the nations of Roshar have a mere 10 days to prepare for the worst. The fate of the entire world—and the Cosmere at large—hangs in the balance.

Please raise your hand if you’re surprised that this book is in my list.
No one? Nobody?
Oh well. I guess it’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Brandon Sanderson’s writing, and especially The Stormlight Archive.

I cannot wait for this book, which will be the last book on the first half of the 10-books series. HOWEVER, I AM SO NOT READY FOR THE HIATUS that will come after this book. Multi-years stormlight hiatus, my heart, I cannot.

Long Live Evil (Sarah Rees Brennan)

book cover
Release date: July 30th 2024 | GOODREADS

What if your fictional boyfriend is suddenly real? What if you are in HIS world? What if instead of being the hero’s love interest, you become the villainess and have to go toe-to-toe with your fictional (well, not so-fictional) crush?

Sarah Rees Brennan always love to make us root for the evil, toying with the ideas of evil handsome boys, and crushing over the bad boys in her Young Adult books. Now, though, she is stepping into adult fantasy and I simply CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS BOOK.

Darker by Four (June CL Tan)

book cover
Release date: April 2nd 2024 | AUTHOR PAGE

A vengeful girl. A hollow boy. A missing god.
When a god of death goes missing, an ancient supernatural virus known as the Blight rears its head, mutating the souls of the dead into Revenants, dark vampiric creatures who thirst for the spirit energy of mortals. As darkness takes over, three paths intersect in the shadows. And three lives bound by the red threads of fate must rise against destiny before the barrier between worlds crumbles and all hell breaks loose. Literally.

Exorcist! Chinese mythology! Slow-burn romance! Anime fight scenes! Queer Asian teens!
So many things to be excited about!!

How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying(Django Wexler)

book cover
Release date: April 25th 2024 | GOODREADS

All I need to share is this excerpt and you know you would want to read it.
Groundhog Day meets Guardians of the Galaxy in Django Wexler’s laugh-out-loud fantasy tale about a young woman who, tired of defending humanity from the Dark Lord, decides to become the Dark Lord herself.

Davi has done this all before. She’s tried to be the hero and take down the all-powerful Dark Lord. A hundred times she’s rallied humanity and made the final charge. But the time loop always gets her in the end. Sometimes she’s killed quickly. Sometimes it takes a while. But she’s been defeated every time.

This time? She’s done being the hero and done being stuck in this endless time loop. If the Dark Lord always wins, then maybe that’s who she needs to be. It’s Davi’s turn to play on the winning side.

Seriously that premise is so good, I’ll be adding this book to my TBR.

The Tainted Cup (Robert Jackson Bennett)

book cover
Release date: February 6 2024 | GOODREADS PAGE

A Holmes and Watson–style detective duo take the stage in this fantasy with a mystery twist, from the Edgar-winning, multiple Hugo-nominated Robert Jackson Bennett

Okay I have a confession to make.
I have not read Robert Jackson Bennett’s works. Like at all. I know I know. He is high on the list of my priority authors to check on, but life got in the way.
This one though, a MURDER MYSTERY and FANTASY (AKA two of my favorite genres) blended into one? I simply cannot miss it.

So that’s it. My 2024 most anticipated fantasy releases.
